Off-grid power supply of speed measurement systems in Abu Dhabi

For a traffic control project in the desert state Abu Dhabi a customized system was developed  in close cooperation with VITRONIC Dr.-Ing. Stein Bildverarbeitungssysteme GmbH from Wiesbaden for its subsidiary based in Dubai.

For the full-year electricity supply a solar generator constisting of 6 PV modules with 1.2kWp was mounted on a customer supplied mounting frame . Charging takes place via a Studer VarioTrack VT65 . AC voltage is provided by a Studer XTS1400. Due to the harsh climatic conditions in the desert a double-walled housing for the accommodation of electronic components and the batteries were chosen. As battery storage Hoppecke VRM batteries with a total capacity of 146Ah ( C24 ) at 48V are used which ensure a system autonomy of one day.

For the first phase of the project to date 27 systems have been delivered by SEI AG .

Backup System for UN Women in Mozambique

Backup system based on MultiPower Backup 5048 for a UN Women administration building in Mozambique. The output power is 5kVA. The system informs about operating state changes and thus allows transparent operation management.

Backup System for Private Home in Mozambique

Quattro Backup AC 10048 for a private residence in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. The backup system has an output power of 10kVA (1-phase). An additional implemented function allows a deeper discharge of the battery if required. An integrated bypass switch allows direct grid operation, e.g. during maintenance work on the system.

Off-Grid Power Supply for House Boat in Berlin

The grid-independent power supply for the houseboat consists of an Xtender Power AC10048 with 10kVA output power, a 4kWp PV generator, a 520Ah / 48V OPzV battery bank as well as a 6,5kVA GEKO 7801 E-AA / ZEDA backup generator. The system was delivered as a ready-to-install system including flat roof / floor frame mounting system.

DC-coupled Battery Storage with PV Generator

Open installation based on the SmartEnergy + DC 5048VS for a residential house in Karlsruhe. The system consists of an XTH8000-48 and 2 VarioStrings, each connected to a 3.5kWp PV generator, an 800Ah OPzV tubular plate battery and sub-distributors (not shown on the picture) with uninterrupted bypass circuit and phase coupling. The system is completely off-grid capable and serves primarily to increase own consumption. During the summer months almost 100% self-sufficiency is achieved with the installed photovoltaics.

Off-Grid Power Supply of an Outhouse near Saarschleife

Often facilities in protected nature areas can only be connected to the public grid by considerable financial and administrative burdens. In many cases an off-grid supply is the only viable solution to ensure a reliable power supply.
For the project a Xtender Power Pro Set in the smallest version with a Studer XTS inverter and a Studer VarioTrack charge controller was delivered. For the power supply throughout the year, an existing power generation from 6 PV modules provide 1.53kWp on a flat roof frame, which is supported by an auto-start gasoline generator when needed. As energy storage Hoppecke OpzV 6V block batteries with a total capacity of 235Ah (C24) at 24V are used, which guarantees a system autonomy of 2 days.

Off-grid-enabled storage system for self-consumption increase in Freiburg

This object is a house in Freiburg with 3 separate apartments. The investment was made by the owners’ association. The client’s desire was to integrate the existing PV system with grid feed inverters in an off-grid-enabled storage system for self-consumption increase. The customer has placed great emphasis on ensuring that in future no energy is fed back into the grid and a grid autonomous operation is possible when needed. For this reason, the existing feed-in inverters (Sunny Boy 5000TL and Sunny Boy 1200) were replaced by a Studer VarioTrack 65 and a Studer VarioString 120. Together with the Xtender, the charge controller is operated in the DC-Priority mode and provides optimal operation in parallel to the public grid. By 2 MPP-trackers and the high input voltages of the VS-120, the existing PV generator 1 could be connected directly to the VarioString without changing the stringing. Only 2 additional branch connectors were attached to the PV generator 2, not to exceed the max. input voltage of the VT65 of 150V.

Power Supply for the “Walderhütte” in Austria

The “Walderhütte” is a guesthouse which is situated at 1960 m altitude at Wöllander Nock. Until now electricity was provided by a three-phase diesel generator. During the renovation of the “Walderhütte” a new, sustainable approach to power the electrical load was developed. Due to the main use during the summer months, the elctricity demand can be covered almost entirely by a photovoltaic generator. The pv generator provides 4.6kWp and is planned to be extended to 9.2kWp. In the transition periods and in winter the generator will be continued to use as backup power source. The battery bank has a capacity of 480Ah (C24) at 48V. This corresponds to a total capacity of 23kWh. The core of the system is represented by the Xtender Power Pro plug’n’play cabinet, which was adjusted as needed. in addition to the second Studer VarioTrack the cabinet is prepared for connection of an additonal wind turbine. An automatic decoupling of consumers phases ensures a uniform load on the three phases of the generator in backup operation.

Power Supply for Holiday Home in the Vosges

The system is based on a Xtender Power Set Classic with additional 12V DC power supply for the control of the solar thermal plant. As 48V battery storage a sealed armor plate battery bank (OpzV) was installed with a long service life.

A generator for low-light months is also provided. A signal lamp in the living room shows when the generator must be started.

The planning and installation of the system is done by SEI AG.
