Off-grid Power Supply for Finca on Mallorca

Many plots in Mallorca are not connected to the local power grid. In most cases your own off-grid solar power is the cheaper alternative to expensive network development. Especially with the good year-round irradiation conditions. In order to bridge longer bad weather periods a small diesel or gasoline generator is sufficient as an emergency power source.

For this project a Xtender Power Pro cabinet system with two 1-phase coupled Studer XTH inverters was supplied to catch short high peak loads reliably and to ensure sufficient reserves for future expansion. The power of the solar generator is 2,8kWp and can be expanded to twice the performance. The substructure was given in order by the customer on site. The batteries have a total capacity of 762Ah (C24) at 48V and are designed for a system autonomy of 2 days. Therefore durable Hoppecke OpzV tubular plate batteries are applied. Due to the prefabricated cabinet the customer was able to do the installation on his own.

Plug’n’Play Off-Grid Cabinet Solution in Guinea

The Xtender Power Pro cabinet solutions are professional plug’n’play stand-alone power supply systems developed and offered by SEI AG. Due to the prefabricated cabinet a fast and error-free commissioning is guaranteed. A digital display provides information on all important operating conditions, such as battery state, PV power, energy consumption and error messages. A data logger is also integrated and allows a detailed evaluation of the plant operation.

The installation of the system in Conakry was performed by partner “Energiegenossenschaft Schweiz”. A total of 2.8 kWp PV capacity were installed and a battery capacity of 600Ah at 48V. The battery bank consists of 24 2V OpzV single cells with high cycle resistancy.

Outdoor Power DC for DSL Repeaters

The OutdoorPower DC M system poweres DSL repeater stations at several locations in Germany. In addition to the 500Wp PV generator, electricity is generated during the low-light months via an AIR 40 small wind generator. The battery capacity is 200Ah at 24V. Smart Energysystems supplied all components for the power supply including the pole mount for the PV generator.

SmartEnergy+ DC-coupled 3-phase PV battery storage system

Due to the low feed-in tariff and a feedback control of 60%, a power feedback is no longer attractive for most operators. Also the program imposed by the KfW and the Federal Ministry of Environment for funding storage solutions can not hide this. To meet the criteria of the program, there are not only a lot of technical requirements to meet, which increase the costs of the systems, but you must also obligate yourself to reduce the regenerative power supply output to 60% over the 20 years. Once installed you cannot participate in local decentralized producer groups anymore, which will be playing an increasingly important role in the future.
For these reasons, we have developed our SmartEnergy + DC PV solutions. The system is a combination of battery inverter and MPPT charge controller. The power of the solar panels is stored on the DC side in the battery, only with minimal losses. The energy which is directly used flows through the inverter to the consumers. The power is only drawn from the power network when the usable energy of the battery is depleted and the current PV capacity is no longer sufficient.

The SmartEnergy+ DC systems are more than just a storage solution. They are full off-grid systems that can be operated completely independently from the power network. In case of power failure, the system switches to off-grid operation without interruption. Since the power is created on the DC side, the full PV power for charging the batteries is still available, regardless of the size of the selected battery inverter.
All systems are equipped with an automatic and manual bypass switch. During maintenance work or in case of a defect, a continuous supply of the consumers is guaranteed from the power network.
In this case the customer from Thuringia/ Germany decided on a 3-phase system of 6.1 kWp PV power. The total battery capacity is 22.5 kWh. The batteries are long lasting tubular plate batteries in the closed version (OpzV). The life expectancy at 50% discharge is >12 years.
The switch cabinet was completely pre-assembled and tested by SEI AG. This allowed quick and easy installation on site.
The SmartEnergy+ DC is also available in a 1-phase version. By phase coupling, all three phases can also be covered. The transfer of power is 11.5 kW. In case of power failure, of course only the rated power of the generator battery is available.

Power Supply for Holiday Home in Germany

Off-Grid PV power System for a remote home. The system consists of a Studer XTM4000-48 inverter/charger, MorninStar Tristar TS45 charge regulator, 800Wp PV generator and 200Ah/48V battery bank. Due to the plug’n’play performance the customer was able to install the system on his own.

Off-Grid Power for a Finca in Mallorca

The system based on our Xtender Power Set II provides a reliable power source to a finca in Mallorca. For the winter time there is a small generator ready as a backup power source. The generator house with 45 ° pitch roof has been built by the customer. The system was supplied by us directly to customer in the normal connection-ready version. The installation was therefore not a problem.

PV Off-Grid System for La Réunion

The off-grid system based on the Xtender Power sets with MPPT charge controller is used to power a small remote building complex. The battery storage consists of durable tubular plate batteries.

The system was installed and put into operation by our local partner “Maison du Photovoltaique”.

Xtender Power Set Classic in Sierra Leone

For the power supply of a mobile phone charging station a Xtender Power Set Classic was installed in Sierra Leone. The project was initiated by the non-profit organization CVJM Roedinghausen. The installation was carried out with the help of local experts. The plant is running since August 2012 and has fulfilled the expectations of all stakeholders.

Solar/Wind Off-Grid Power Supply for High Level Drinking Water Tank

A high level tank at Rohrdorf/Meßkirch in the Swabian Alps, is used to supply drinking water to surrounding communities. The tank itself is located in an outside section and thus not connected to the public grid. To control the water distribution and to secure the operation of the system, a continuous and autonomous power supply of 24 V DC over the year is an indispensable requirement.

To cope with this requirement, 10 solar modules, each 180Wp/24V, have been mounted on the roof of the service building, totalling 1.8 kWp, and supplemented by one wind turbine, Ampair 600/24V, with charge controller. For the energy storage, a battery bank consisting of 4 Gel batteries with a total of 460 Ah at 24 V has been used. For easy and quick installation at site, all electronics have been pre-wired on an installation board and tested before dispatch. Thus only the cableing of the battery bank, the wind turbine and the solar modules had to be performed.

Off-Grid Power Supply for Offshore Platforms in the Baltic Sea

The container platforms are built on the continental shelf in front of the Baltic Sea coast nearby Greifswald. Main purpose of the platforms are to analyse the sea water.

The platform is unattended and therefore designed as a fully automatic and autonomous power supply (230VAC/50Hz und 24V DC) to secure the transfer of the measured data through all over the year. Power is mainly used for electronic measurement facilities, some pumps and valves, navigation lighting as well as for a laptop with telemetric accessory for remote monitoring of measured data and operation of power system.

To secure the power supply, we have considered a two stage modular concept for the charging components. The basic installation consists of 1x wind generator Ampair 600 and4x Solara SM500S 125 Wp solar modules. In case charging current to the battery bank (4x SBG 12-230 in total 230 Ah/48 V) is not sufficient, the system may be extended by a further wind generator and addtional four solar modules. For emergency backup power a gas generator with automatic start facility is on standby. The strong>230 V/50Hz AC power comes from Studer XPC Inverter. The DC power supply (24V DC) is performed by 48/24 DC-DC converter.

For easy and quick installation at site, all electronics have been pre-wired and tested in our laboratory before dispatch. Thus only the cabeling of the battery bank, the wind turbine and the solar modules had to be performed.
